Melvyn Price was a talented trombonist/conguero from Pontiac, Michigan, who relocated to Sweden in the late ’60s. In 1974, after completing two years of composition and theory training at Stockholm’s University College of Music Education, Price was ready to complete what would become his magnum opus. Thousands of miles away from Michigan, Melvyn Price made a bold musical statement with a bold name: an album fit to be called Rhythm and Blues. This record is a unique blend of jazz and soul styles, complimented by Price's Latin-inspired conga playing. A long-time favorite of Wax Poetics’ own Amir Abdullah, this incredibly rare record had fallen into near obscurity until being reissued by Wax Poetics Records in 2008.
